On Thursday 8th March 2012, Renée (hope the spelling is right) from Germany visited our learners class . Renée has been learning to square dance at the Coconuts Square Dance Club in Leinzell, she was accompanied by her two sons Michael and Thomas. Michael who has lived in Adelaide since 2010 loves our town; Renée and Thomas still live in Germany. Apparently Renée’s husband will not square dance, he sounds like me and a lot of other men I know who are now ardent fans, taking the first step is often difficult for us blokes. Renée will be in Adelaide for 3 weeks.

A little bit about the Coconuts square dance club in Germany (gleaned from their website with the aid of some on line interpretation).
The Coconuts Square Dance Club is located at Leinzell, a small town about 50 kilometres East of Stuttgart The club began in 1984, under caller Roy Cattermoul, at the “Imperial Eagle” in Mögglingen (10 km SE of Leinzell). The first dancers graduated in 1985 when Uli Schingen finished the class. They then moved with Uli to the “Crown” restaurant in Leinzell for the next years. Five of the founding members still dance at the Coconuts. After several callers in the early years, Wolfgang “Whuffie” Daiss came to the coconuts in 1991 and called for the Club for over ten years. Currently from their website, it appears Coconuts currently has two callers, Otto Ebert and Uli Carriage
This year the club will celebrate its 27th anniversary.
Renée danced some moves she had never danced before like spin the top, flutterwheel, tag, half tag and more, she was pushed arrounf a little. She still appeared to enjoy the night. Renée we hope to see you again before you leave us.
