The traditional New Years Eve dance was held at our Brigalow Avenue venue. Whilst scheduled to start at 9.00 PM, many dancers arrived hours before this to help set up and relax outside the hall prior to dancing. The weather was absolutely perfect, a nice balmy night. The lawn outside the hall was the ideal spot to relax, eat and drink (refresh?) before, and between dances. Eventually Roger and Helen did turn up, just in time to set up some floodlighting so that we were not all sitting in the dark.
Early Birds But They’re Not Eating Worms or Drinking Water
The calling was of an excellent standard, Jeff, Peter Scott and Ian Rutter gave some great calls. Its great to see Ian’s calling improving in leaps and bounds now that he has added hoedowns to his repertoire.
Peter Surprisingly Not On An Oil Rig This Year
This year we had a good attendance of around 60 people, which resulted in six squares on the floor which filled the dance floor to capacity without the need to dance in the adjoining dining room.
All Around Your Coner
It was very pleasant to welcome back some old faces, Bev, Trish, Jeff, James and Candice.
Two Old Faces -Trish & Jeff
We danced until the countdown began for the New Year, then everyone linked arms and sang Auld-Lang-Syne, then poppers were popped, streamers were streamed, lots of hugging kissing ensued with many “happy new years”, followed by more relaxing and refreshments outside in the balmy first morning of 2013, then it was back to more dancing inside.
Auld Lang Syne – More Like A Rugby Scrum
I noted we only sang the chorus of Auld Lang Syne, not the full 5 verses (each followed by the chorus) I would love to hear Jeff pronounce the words, here are a couple of verses below:
We twa hae run about the braes,
And pu’d the gowans fine,
But we’ve wander’d mony a weary foot
Sin’ auld lang syne.
And surely ye’ll be your pint’ stoup,
And surely I’ll be mine!
And we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet
For auld lang syne!
Happy New Year!!

Amazing!!! He Still Remembers How To Dance
We finally wound up the night at 1,00 AM Tuesday 1st January 2013 – those who attended enjoyed a most pleasant and satisfying night out – let’s do it again next year!
Refreshments Before The Last Dance
A big thank you to the committee and all the helpers who set up and later dismantled the hall and outside areas further, thankyou Jeff, Peter and Ian for your calling
