Our Mothers Day dance was well attended and whilst member ladies gained free entry, all ladies received a special heart-shaped lucky number for a special prize thanks to Jenny Dinning and Julie Walladge for organising this.  Our May dinner at Salisbury North Football Club was great night out.  About 50 people joined us for a very tasty meal complimented by a good selection of salads and vegies plus soup.  Not needing to pre-order made life easy for everyone, the meals came out in a timely fashion and members received $2 cashback on the night.  The wooden floor made dancing a pleasure, as did the company and the calling.  Special thanks to April for the idea and organisation.

Thanks to Scotty for filling in while Jeff was in Tasmania helping Tassie Twirlers celebrate their 50th Birthday and last ever dance.

By the time you read this April will be in her Thirties and we hope you were able to help her celebrate more on that next time.

Don’t forget that our friends from Scootback Squares will be joining us at the end of the month for our Hot Soup night and I know there will be plenty of tasty options to keep you warm. This night is not just for Wild Frontier & Scootback Squares dancers so come in from the cold and join us.

Coming up in August we have a Charity night and this year we will be donating to Heart Kids please come along and help us help them.

Preparations are well under way for our next Learners class which will start on Thursday 14th September.  To help get us started, we will be holding a Come & Try event on Thursday 31st August, so if you know of anyone who may be interested please let them know  see advert for details and there are flyers available at the club if you would like some to help you spread the word.

Happy dancing,

Jenny’s May 2016 News Update

Hello, I’m happy to report that our 43rd Birthday went off really well with a crowded hall and some great calling from Jeff, Graham, Les, Ian, Peter & John.  The committee & helpers did a great job  putting the evening together, including the (seemingly never ending) pass the parcel! Thanks to Anne Tulloch for coming along on behalf of the Society and making a great speech.  It was also good to see Life Members Jan Woodget and Glad Attenborough.

Easter will have come and gone by the time you read this and we hope you enjoyed your weekend and didn’t eat too much chocolate (is that possible?!).

We held our Easter dance the week before Easter this year and I’m sure the committee, once again, will have put on a good night for you.

Our weekend away with Kannella Squares is this month and by now you should have booked your dinner ticket for the Saturday night meal if you are joining us at the Bentley hotel – please see April or Lois asap if you haven’t done so.

Next on the agenda is our May dinner;  once again this year we are going to the Old Mill in Hahndorf – plenty of choice for food at a great price and the dancing is FREE.  See advert for details and see April or Lois for your tickets.

The National Convention is fast approaching and Wild Frontier will be closed on Friday 1st July and Friday 8th July while Jeff is away.  For all those who are travelling to the National we wish you a safe journey and a fantastic time.

Mark your diaries for a special night for Jeff coming up in June – see adverts also in “Whats Happening” page

Jenny’s March 2016 News Update

Thank you to everyone who braved the wet conditions and came along to our Aussie Night dance.  Once again Carolyn provided us with some very tasty home-made damper, thankyou, and the committee did a great job with the decorations.  Our learners are continuing to progress well and the new format seems to be working okay.  They enjoy watching the couple of mainstream brackets before they get up again and thankyou to all of you who get them up and mix in with them as it helps and can be a confidence booster.

We celebrated our 43rd Birthday in February and I do hope that you enjoyed the fun & games and your lolly bag.  I know the committee put a lot of thought and effort into making it a fun Birthday party for you to enjoy, so a big thankyou to them.  Maybe a wrap up of that next issue.

Coming up in March we are having a change of routine.  We will be closed over Easter but holding our Easter dance the week before on our regular Friday night.

Why not hop along for an eggstra special evening (sorry, I had to do it).

Our weekend away with Kannella Squares to Clare in April is fast approaching so I hope you have booked your accommodation.  Remember, everyone is welcome; you don’t have to belong to either club to come along.  The info flyer is now available and if you are joining us for dinner on the Saturday night tickets must be pre-purchased – please see April.

Happy dancing,

Jenny’s December 2015 News Update

I can almost hear the sleighbells already – where has the time gone! Thanks to Pat for keeping the articles going whilst we cruised some of that time away.

First up we have changed the format for our Learners. As we have ended up with an enthusiastic but only small group it wasn’t viable to keep opening on a Thursday night and so they are now joining us on Friday nights between 7 and 8pm. So far, so good and thank you to those of you who come early to help.

Hope those who joined us at the Old Mill enjoyed our Christmas Dinner and Dance night – always a good meal and a fun night. Our Christmas Breakup is coming up and this year we will only be having kids activities if we get a minimum of ten children and we need to know numbers by the end of November; so please let us know ASAP. No need to panic though because Santa will be visiting us either way. Our New Year’s Eve dance is on as usual at the Brigalow Ave hall and everyone is welcome to join us – BYO drinks, nibbles and chairs.

We will be re-opening mid-January and are looking forward to a busy year ahead. As always we have several special nights planned and we will be celebrating our 43rd Birthday in February; so keep the date free, put on your party clothes and join us for our ‘Real Birthday Party’. Please see adverts in this and the next Round Up and also our website for more info.

The committee and I wish you all a safe, healthy and happy New Year.

Merry Christmas,

Jennys June 2015 News Update

Our Learners are continuing to progress and should be ready for graduation soon. Keep your eyes peeled for your chance to help welcome them.

Thanks to the committee for their decorations for our ANZAC night, including April’s hand-made poppies – well done everyone. Although down in numbers, it was a good night and another chance to dance the Grand Colonel Spin; the pies & pasties went down a treat too.

As I write, our May dinner at the Old Mill is still over a week away but with numbers at a squeak under 50, I’m sure it will be a good night.

If you get this in time – we will be closed on Thursday 4th and Friday 5th June as the hall is not available.

Our next special night will be our Hot Soup night in July and our friends from Scootback Squares will be paying us a visit. Why not come along and join the fun and sample some of our tasty soups – see advert for more details AND please note the change of date.

Some advance notice – the Barn Dance at Mick & Pauline’s is on again the first Saturday in October and we are heading back to Clare for our weekend away next year but it will be in early April – details out later in the year.

We wish Josephine all the best on her long road to recovery after being knocked down by a car and since I last wrote – Vale Ron Trenorden.

Don’t forget we have great heaters in this hall, so don’t let the cold stop you from enjoying yourself with your fellow square dancers.

Happy dancing,

Jennys May 2015 News Update

Hi All, I’ll have to start with a report on our weekend away to Berri. We had fantastic weather, which is always a bonus, and the caravan park had a new large swimming pool next to the original – both of which some of our happy campers made use of during the weekend. We were joined by a couple from Townsville who were on route to the National and also some of our learners.

I’m happy to report that a great time was had by all – there was plenty of food at the club on Saturday night and dancing at the Town Hall was a pleasure again. Friday night and Sunday morning dancing at the caravan park were a mix of relaxed casual and casual brain-taxing and for those left Sunday night; it was good to sit back, relax and chat around the BBQ.

Our Pre-Easter dance was a great night, not only did we have our advertised guest Richard Muir and his wife Heather but we also had a surprise guest Les Heaton and his wife Joyce from NSW – with good callers, a crowded floor and chocolate you can’t go wrong! Thanks to the committee for putting up some Easter decorations to add to the atmosphere.

Of course as I write many of us are winding down after attending the National Convention. Even if I say so myself (but I wasn’t the only one), it was a fantastic weekend and it was great to see some of our Learners come along to watch and spend some money at the square dance vendor stalls.

Next up on our radar is our May Dinner – check the noticeboard and the advertisement below for details.

Happy dancing,

Jennys April 2015 News Update

Firstly, I have to say it again, thankyou to everyone who came to help us celebrate our 42nd Birthday on yet another hot night. The hall was packed, the atmosphere was great and the decorations and your outfits really took us back to the 70’s; all complemented by a great supper and another of Heather’s delicious Birthday Cakes. Thanks also to Graham, Les and Ian for their calling.

Well done everyone.

Our Learners are continuing to progress and are still having lots of fun. In case you weren’t aware our Learners are now dancing at the Chapel St hall – still on Thursday nights at 7:30pm; experienced Angels always welcome.

As I write we are only a few days away from going to Berri for our annual weekend away and at this stage the forecast is looking pretty good.

Hope you were able to join us for some fun and camaraderie.

This month we will be having our ANZAC dance and I’m sure it will be another very special evening. Before we know it, it will be May and our annual combined Dinner / Dance with Kannella Squares will be upon us – anyone is welcome to come. We have something a bit different in mind this year so keep an ear to the ground for all the details.

Hope to see you at the National – don’t miss a great opportunity to experience something fantastic in your home state.

Happy dancing,

Jennys February 2015 News Update

Happy New Year to you all and we hope you have not suffered with the heat or fires.  Firstly, thanks to the committee and other helpers for doing such a great job with our Christmas Break-up and New Year’s Eve dance.  Both celebrations went off well and also a big thankyou to Santa for stopping by and entertaining the children.  It was great to see some of our learners come along on both occasions and they acquitted themselves very well.

At time of writing we haven’t had our Aussie Night so I can’t report on that, but hopefully you were there and you know it all anyway!

Our 42nd Birthday is almost upon us and we look forward to seeing you on the dance floor to help us celebrate – all the info is in the advert.  Please feel free to dress to theme if you wish e.g. the 1970’s brought the end of the hippy era, flares, bellbottoms, mini/midi/maxi skirts, hotpants, disco glitz, peasant blouses, shirts & suits with big collars, tie-dye clothing, t-shirts with slogans, platform shoes and the affro, Farrah Fawcett and long straight hairstyles (sometimes complete with headbands or scarves); just to name a few trends – it should be interesting to see what people come up with.  Square dance dress is fine too.

About 3 weeks after our birthday we will be heading to Berri for our annual weekend away.  Everyone is welcome; please book your accommodation directly with the caravan park and info sheets with details of the weekend’s activities should be available at the club now.

Happy dancing,

Jeffs February 2015 News Update

Our Australia Day dance was well received by all, including   some of the learners that joined in the celebrations. It was nice to have them along with us. Thanks to our committee.

Good luck Ken with your hip replacement.

Our next event will be our 42nd Birthday & we cordially invite everyone to join us. We are the oldest square dance club in South Australia & cater for all dancers.  Please see Home Page advert for details.

As from Thursday 12th February our learners will be dancing in the Chapel Street venue. Anybody wishing to join us as an “Angel” is more than welcome to help out.

Don’t forget to book your accommodation with the  Berri Caravan Park for our weekend away in the Riverland. That’s March 13th – 15th.  Please contact the caravan Park direct on (08) tell them you are with Wild Frontier to receive a 10% discount.  Please see Home Page advert for details.

Kannella Squares will be hosting a pre-convention dance for Challenge, Advanced & Plus dancers on Tuesday 31st March from 1.p.m. onwards.    Guest caller Richard Muir WA will be joining us.      Again please see Home Page advert for details.

Wild Frontier will be closed Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd April
for the annual National Square Dance Convention to be held in Adelaide this year.

Jenny’s December 2014 News Update

Well done to Paddlesteamers for putting on another good afternoon of dancing and food to celebrate their 6th birthday; which I’m sure was enjoyed by those that attended. Now that the pageant is over we are on the slippery slope into Christmas and New Year festivities and before we know it, 2015 will be well upon us. We will have had our Christmas dinner at the Old Mill by now – I’m sure as usual it would have been a very enjoyable evening. Our Christmas Breakup is a littler earlier this year [see advert below and on main page] for details. Everyone is welcome to our New Year’s Eve dance at Brigalow Ave; please note the start time in the advert.

Don’t forget our weekend away to Berri in March; it is a couple of weeks earlier than usual and you need to book your accommodation directly with the Berri Caravan Park. We will be following a similar format to other weekends away and an info sheet will be available in the New Year.

We hope you have enjoyed our activities over the year and thank you for your support – if we don’t see you at one of our Christmas / New Year dances; we look forward to seeing you on the dance floor in 2015.

We wish you a safe and happy Christmas and New Year.

Jenny’s December January 2014 News Update

Here we are at the crazy end of the year already, unbelievable!

Firstly, our thoughts are with those that have had or are due for surgery or are sick and we wish you a speedy recovery.

Our learners (& a few others) enjoyed a visit out to Vintage Squares in Gawler recently.  Barry and Danny Jordan and their dancers put on a very enjoyable night complete with a beautiful supper – thankyou very much.  As I write this, we haven’t had our “English Barn Dance” evening, or our dinner at the Old Mill yet; but hopefully you were able to enjoy them both.  Our Christmas Break-up with a visit from Santa is fast approaching, so if you or your families are bringing any children along please check the noticeboard and put their names on the list – no plus learners that night as we will be alternating dance fun for the kids and mainstream brackets until 8pm; then dancing as usual.  We will again be holding a New Year’s Eve dance at the Brigalow Ave. hall and as always everyone is welcome,  byo chairs, nibbles and drink – no supper break but continuous tea & coffee will be available; see advert for details.

Our first special night for the year will be our Aussie Night, closely followed by our 41st Birthday in February and we hope you will be able to celebrate with us.

Merry Christmas, keep safe & see you on the dance floor,
