Martin Klibbe Memorial Square Dance
The Martin Klibbe Memorial Square Dance Mackay 2007
Martin Klibbe was killed in a road accident in 2004; Martin called for the Mackay District Square Dance Club. Since this tragic accident Martin’s family have held the Memorial dance in his honor, & I was privileged to be the first caller to call for it in 2005. Barry Wonson from NSW called last year in 2006 & this year along with me & Barry, Phillip Aslanidis from Vic. & Jason Dean from Qld joined us. We were joined this year also by Tony Oxendine & Jerry Story from the USA.
The weekend was a non stop full on square dance, with all programs from Mainstream, Plus & Advanced dancing being programmed. I am please to say that South Australian dancers were very well represented, approximately two squares from our club joined in the fun weekend. Unfortunately the weather was just as cold up north as it was down here, no rain, but very cold nights.
Thanks to the Klibbe family for their hospitality extended to all over this weekend.
Next year the Americans will be back! That’s the third weekend of July 2008.
